Today I have a heavy heart, it is the end of an era at Black Project.
The Epic wave fins range has enjoyed wave riding success over several seasons, with multiple PWA and IWT event and title wins. Our athletes have used these exact fins to win in a wide range of wave conditions from Philip Koster’s 2022 wins in Pozo and Sylt to Bernd Roediger’s 2022 win in Cabo Verde and to Morgan Noireaux’s multiple Aloha Classic wins and his latest IWT 2022 Tour victory.
There simply hasn’t been a more versatile wave fin on the market in the past 10 years. Everything else in windsurfing has changed but the Epic fins have remained a constant and kept producing results. In many ways this last year was the most successful of all.
I personally have incredibly fond memories of riding these fins all over the world both free sailing and in competitive heats, including Peru, Maui, USA, Mexico and most recently and fittingly in the UK at Camber Sands with my original and best sailing buddy, my brother Andy.
Designed by Tom Hammerton in collaboration with myself and our athletes, the Epic fins blend speed, control and flow, the predictable nature of these fins helps you to concentrate on the waves and jumps without worrying about your fins, we like to refer to them as ‘reassuringly forgettable’. Over the years we tried to improve the fins, and failed, we kept trying and kept failing.
Built in black G10, these fins are precision CNC milled and hand finished to give you the ultimate wave sailing experience. It is amazing to think of the journey these fins go through before they even get screwed underneath your board.
The Epic range was initially conceived for wave riding legend Mark Angulo as a single fin, it developed into a thruster set and later we introduced quad and twin fins for Morgan Noireaux. Throughout its life span the Epic range has been available in three different constructions, three versions of artwork and in 24 sizes from 7cm to 23cm across a range of base options.
But all good things come to an end, we have been working hard on our new collection of fins and that means that it is time to say goodbye to the fin range which in many ways put Black Project on the windsurfing map. This fin enabled me to build a business and the lifestyle which I had always dreamed of. I will be eternally grateful to the Epic fin range for what it has enabled me to do.
As part of our first ever Maui Warehouse Sale we are giving you the opportunity to mix-and-match, build your fin set up, increase your tuning options, or simply buy spares. There are not many Epic fins left and once they are gone, there will be no more.
Front fins sold in pairs. Rear quad fins sold in pairs. Rear thruster fins sold as singles. Be sure to check the description.
